Rights Respecting School

Saltley Academy is a Rights Respecting School. To develop this further, students will have even more opportunity to explore their rights, their need to respect the rights of others and how to respond when others are denied their rights, as, sadly, so many children are around the world. Saltley Academy is committed to develop happy and effective citizens who know how to change things for the better.

Since July 2016, we have been officially recognised by UNICEF as a ‘Rights Respecting School’ and granted the Level 1 award. We were the first Birmingham secondary school to receive the award. No school in the country has achieved the award as quickly as we did and we are now working towards Level 2.

It means the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is central to the ethos and values of our Academy and permeates all we do.

It means that our students understand their rights and their need to respect the rights of others.

It means that we are all committed to our pledge as a learning community:

Saltley Academy is founded on the principle of all respecting the dignity and rights of each and every individual. Respectful relationships are at the core of this learning community, which will enable our young people to respect all whom they meet and to understand and develop the skills they need to embrace the responsibilities of being an outstanding learner and an active, contributing and content citizen.

As student is this Academy, you are part of this.
