Saltley Houses
The student house system here at Saltley allow pupils to be in groups named after many inspirational and thought provoking icons in history, our students represent houses under their names.
This promotes support among the students and settles them in to the atmosphere of teamwork and kindness amongst one another.
Therefore, pupils can do research and take inspiration from these famous individuals and there stories allowing them to be ambitious and seek out their future with clear minds and a stronger understanding of what qualities are needed to help them prosper.
Alhazen House
Head of Alhazen House - Nicola Dowds
As Head of Alhazen House, I am determined about creating a supportive, inspiring environment where pupils can thrive both academically and personally. Inspired by the mathematician Alhazen, in Alhazen house we believe in the importance of pushing boundaries—whether that means learning something new or stepping outside your comfort zone. Adventure plays a key role in this journey, and I encourage students to approach their studies with curiosity and a fearless attitude.
Mutual respect is at the heart of everything we do in Alhazen House. I work hard to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents, fostering a family-like atmosphere where everyone feels valued and supported. Hard work and perseverance are essential, and I strive to instil these values in the pupils of Alhazen, helping them push their boundaries and achieve their best.
I’m committed to guiding pupils on their journey of self-discovery, nurturing their passion for learning, and helping them develop the skills they need to succeed in life.

Turing House
Head of Turing House - Shahid Rehman
Respect, Resilience and Perseverance are the cornerstones of Turing House. Very much in line with our House champion Alan Turing OBE. These are the key characteristics that I feel should be instilled in all pupils within our House.
As a former pupil, having worked at Saltley for 13 years, I have spent the last six years as the Head of Turing House. My schooling gave me the opportunity to achieve my aspirations, I was lucky enough to graduate with BSc Honors in Biochemistry from the University of Birmingham. It is now my ambition to give our pupils these same opportunities and more.
In Turing House we provide pupils with the foundations to regulate their social, emotional and behavioural mindsets.
Nurturing the pupil’s personal growth in this way allows them to achieve the best possible outcomes academically. We wish to guide our pupils in Turing to educational success as a means of social mobility.

As Mae Jemison said, ''Never limit yourself because of other's limited imagination; never limit others because of your own limited imagination''.
