Personal Development at Saltley Academy

At Saltley Academy, we are committed to developing outstanding learners and well-rounded individuals. As a proud Gold Rights Respecting School, we ensure that children's rights are explicitly linked to all areas of our work, particularly within our personal development curriculum. Our approach nurtures students into confident, respectful, and responsible citizens, preparing them for success in education, the workplace, and wider society.

- We provide every student with the opportunity, guidance, and care to ensure that:

- They are respectful and respected.

- They feel safe, supported, and valued while developing independence, resilience, and creativity.

- They grow into happy, successful, and responsible individuals who contribute positively to school, the community, and society.

- They acquire the essential skills and qualities needed for further study and the world of work.

- They experience a diverse range of enriching opportunities that broaden their learning.

- They are empowered to be the best they can be.

A key aspect of our personal development programme is our structured tutor time, which fosters positive relationships between staff and students in a stable, nurturing environment. Engaging activities during form time include a weekly podcast, assembly, guided reading, numeracy and literacy sessions, and a house quiz. These sessions focus on key themes such as Wellbeing, British Values, Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA), Diversity, RSE, Careers, and Living in the Wider World.

Our ultimate goal is for students to leave Saltley Academy as confident, informed, and compassionate individuals with a strong sense of their own values and beliefs. We strive to equip them with the skills and knowledge to be active global citizens, ready to navigate and contribute positively to the modern world.
