Art

The Art curriculum is fundamental in developing a child’s reaction to the world around them. With relevant, engaging topics that explore the Art industry we aim to develop a child’s thoughts and feelings to their experience through their Artwork. Moving through the curriculum students will explore a range of themes including, mark making and Marvel art, onto Sealife and Portraiture.

These topics not only engage with the wider curriculum but allow students to explore their reactions and feelings towards these topics in a safe learning environment. Each topic builds on the skills and knowledge they have previously learned culminating in students producing meaningful responses to the topics and sharing their work with others. There are a range of trips and co-curricular activities to support the learning and the engagement.

As students move through Key stage Four, they have more independence in the directions their practice will take. Developing their own styles and specialisms within the subject. They will have a more freedom to explore and revisit materials and processes they enjoy. They will be exploring the GCSE assessment objectives to produce a Portfolio of work that will be monitored a supported to get their best potential grades.

Students will also work with materials in an exploratory method to develop unique ideas to incorporate into their work. Looking at everyday themes such as Food and Identity students will develop their analytical skills through the exploration of Artists and designers linked to their practice. They will refine their work showing a clear journey and links from one task to another. Recording their ideas through both observations and annotation.
