Enrichment Activities

The Eco-council empowers students to promote sustainability and make a positive impact on both the school and the wider community. Members take part in a range of environmental projects and collaborate with Eco Councillors from other schools across our Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) to share ideas and develop initiatives. Recent achievements include participating in the Big Clean Up community litter-picking campaign, leading the "Switch It Off" energy-saving campaign, and introducing a new recycling system across the school. Through these experiences, students enhance their leadership, teamwork, communication, organisation, planning, and problem-solving skills while developing confidence, initiative, environmental responsibility, and the ability to work collaboratively to create positive and lasting change. 

Change Makers Ambassadors are a student leadership team made up of pupils from all year groups who are committed to creating a positive, supportive, and inclusive school environment. As role models within the school community, members work together to identify ways to improve student wellbeing and strengthen relationships among their peers. A key part of their role is becoming peer mediators, receiving specialist training from Peacemakers to develop skills in communication, active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution. Using these skills, Change Makers help mediate disagreements between students by providing a safe and neutral space where everyone can share their thoughts and feelings. Through guided discussion, they support students in understanding one another’s perspectives and finding positive, mutually agreed solutions, helping to promote respect, cooperation, and harmony throughout the school. 

Well-being Ambassadors help create a positive, supportive, and inclusive school environment. During sessions, students plan well-being activities, organise awareness campaigns, carry out and develop peer support initiatives, and share ideas to promote positive mental health across the school. 

Students build valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, empathy, problem-solving, and confidence, while gaining experience in organising events and making a positive impact on the school community. 

Our School Digital Ambassadors are a team of enthusiastic student leaders who champion the use of technology across the school. They help promote digital learning, support their peers in developing confidence with technology, and encourage the safe, responsible, and positive use of digital tools. 

Digital Ambassadors act as role models for good digital citizenship, helping to raise awareness of online safety, digital wellbeing, and respectful online behaviour. They share new ideas, provide valuable student feedback on technology, and work collaboratively to help create an innovative and digitally inclusive learning environment. 

Through their leadership and enthusiasm, our Digital Ambassadors play an important role in supporting the school's vision for technology-enhanced learning and preparing students for an increasingly digital world. 

Our Careers Ambassadors are a team of dedicated student leaders who help promote careers education and inspire their peers to think positively about their future pathways. They play an important role in raising awareness of the wide range of opportunities available after school, including further education, apprenticeships, training, and employment. 

Careers Ambassadors support careers events, employer encounters, and enrichment activities, helping to encourage student engagement and participation. They share information about careers-related opportunities, gather student views, and act as positive role models within the school community. 

By promoting aspiration, ambition, and informed decision-making, our Careers Ambassadors help create a culture where students are encouraged to explore their interests, develop key employability skills, and prepare confidently for their futures. 

Our Reading Ambassadors are enthusiastic student leaders who promote a love of reading and help create a positive reading culture across the school. They encourage their peers to explore new books, share recommendations, and recognise the value of reading for learning, wellbeing, and personal growth, and they live and breathe Article 31, every child has the right to rest, play, culture and arts.  

Reading Ambassadors support reading events, help promote literacy initiatives, and gather student voice to ensure reading opportunities are engaging and accessible for all. They play an important role in celebrating reading and inspiring others to become confident, lifelong readers. 

Guided by our school values — Ready, Respectful, Responsible, Reflective — Reading Ambassadors act as positive role models, demonstrating curiosity, resilience, and a passion for learning. Through their leadership and enthusiasm, they help build a community where reading is valued, enjoyed, and celebrated by everyone. 

Our Rights & Respecting Ambassadors are a passionate team of student leaders who champion children’s rights and help embed a culture of respect, fairness, and inclusion across the school. They play a central role in supporting our journey as a Rights Respecting School, ensuring that every member of our community feels valued and empowered. 

Rights & Respecting Ambassadors promote understanding of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, encouraging students to recognise both their rights and their responsibilities. They lead awareness campaigns, support assemblies, and contribute to projects that strengthen student voice, equality, and positive relationships. 

Guided by our school values; Ready, Respectful, Responsible, Reflective — these ambassadors act as role models for kindness, integrity, and thoughtful behaviour. They help create a safe and welcoming environment by listening to student views, sharing ideas for improving school culture, and working collaboratively with staff to embed rights‑based practice throughout the school. 

Through their leadership, empathy, and commitment to fairness, our Rights & Respecting Ambassadors help build a community where respect is lived daily, rights are upheld, and every young person is supported to thrive. 

The Voice 21 Ambassadors are a team of student leaders who champion effective communication across the school. Ambassadors represent the school through assemblies, presentations, podcasts, and a range of school events, helping to promote the importance of speaking and listening with confidence and purpose. This role provides students with valuable opportunities to develop their public speaking, leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while serving as positive role models for their peers. Through their work, Voice 21 Ambassadors help to strengthen student voice, support school initiatives, and contribute to a culture where every student feels empowered to express their ideas and opinions effectively. 

Sports Ambassadors are enthusiastic student leaders who play an important role in promoting sport, physical activity, and healthy lifestyles across the school community. Ambassadors work closely with staff to support sporting events, assist with extracurricular activities, and encourage greater participation in physical activity among their peers. This leadership role provides valuable opportunities to develop communication, organisation, teamwork, and leadership skills while acting as positive role models. Through their involvement, Sports Ambassadors help to foster a positive sporting culture, celebrate success, and inspire others to engage in a wide range of physical activities both within and beyond the school environment. 

The Music Club is open to students from all year groups and is a great opportunity for anyone interested in music to come along, use a variety of instruments, and develop their skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. Whether you’re a beginner looking to try something new or an experienced musician wanting to practice and collaborate, everyone is welcome. Students who are particularly interested can also take the next step and join the Saltley Band, giving them the chance to perform in the Christmas and summer shows. 

Saltley Studio is the perfect place to develop your drama skills, take part in exciting stage performances, and enjoy a creative environment where you can build confidence and make new friends. Whether you're a natural performer or simply looking to try something new, Saltley Drama offers a fun and supportive opportunity to express yourself, grow your talents, and let your personality shine. 

Saltley Academy is proud to offer separate boys' and girls' football teams for students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10, providing every young person with the opportunity to participate, develop their skills and represent the school. Football offers a wide range of benefits, including improving physical fitness, promoting positive mental wellbeing and building confidence. Through training sessions and competitive fixtures, students develop teamwork, communication, leadership and resilience while learning the importance of commitment, respect and sportsmanship. Having teams for each year group ensures that students can compete and progress alongside their peers, creating an inclusive environment where everyone has the chance to enjoy the game, achieve their potential and take pride in representing their school. 

Badminton is a popular and enjoyable sport at our school, providing students with the opportunity to develop their skills, compete and stay active. As a fast-paced and accessible sport, badminton helps students improve their fitness, agility, coordination and concentration while supporting positive mental wellbeing. Through weekly sessions, students build confidence, resilience and self-discipline, as well as developing important qualities such as teamwork, communication and sportsmanship. Participation in badminton also encourages students to form positive friendships, take on new challenges and represent the school with pride, creating an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone can thrive and achieve their full potential.  

Our Basketball Enrichment Club provides pupils with an exciting opportunity to develop their basketball skills in a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment. Through a range of drills, games, and team challenges, students improve their passing, shooting, dribbling, and teamwork while building confidence, resilience, and sportsmanship. The club welcomes players of all abilities and encourages an active, healthy lifestyle while fostering a love of sport and friendly competition. 

The Trampolining Club provides students with the opportunity to develop their trampolining skills in a safe, supportive, and enjoyable environment. Open to students of all abilities, the club focuses on improving coordination, balance, strength, and confidence while introducing participants to a range of trampolining techniques and routines. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves, work towards personal goals, and develop resilience through regular practice. Whether aiming to refine existing skills or trying trampolining for the first time, members can enjoy being active, making new friends, and taking part in an engaging extracurricular activity. 

The STEM Club gives students the opportunity to explore a wide range of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through engaging, hands-on activities. Students take part in engineering challenges, science experiments, and design and technology projects, such as building bird houses and bug hotels to help increase biodiversity around the school grounds. Each session is led by a subject specialist, giving students expert guidance while helping them develop problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, communication, and practical design and engineering skills. The club also encourages curiosity, resilience, and confidence as students investigate, create, and test their ideas. 

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a nationally recognised programme that provides pupils with opportunities to develop skills, improve their physical fitness, support their local community through volunteering and take part in adventurous expeditions. 

During DofE sessions, pupils work towards completing the four sections of the award: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. Activities include expedition training, navigation, route planning, campcraft, outdoor safety, teamwork challenges and preparation for assessed expeditions. 

The programme helps pupils to develop resilience, independence, leadership, communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills. It also encourages pupils to challenge themselves, build confidence and gain valuable experiences that support future education and employment opportunities.
