Personal Development at Saltley Academy

At Saltley Academy, we are committed to delivering a Personal Development (PD) curriculum that supports every pupil to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and morally. Our aim is to ensure that all pupils develop the knowledge, skills, character, and cultural capital needed to thrive in modern Britain and lead safe, healthy, and successful lives.

Personal Development sits at the heart of our ethos and is delivered through a coherent and sequenced programme that includes PSHE, RSE, careers education, enrichment, assemblies, guided reading, and our bespoke form-time curriculum. Our provision is inclusive, ambitious, and tailored to meet the needs of our diverse community.

Aims of the Personal Development Curriculum

Saltley Academy’s Personal Development provision aims to ensure pupils:

  • Develop a strong sense of identity, self-worth, and belonging
  • Understand how to build and maintain healthy, respectful relationships
  • Are equipped to make informed and safe decisions about their wellbeing and future
  • Develop resilience, confidence, independence, and character
  • Understand and respect diversity, equality, and British Values
  • Are prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of adult life
  • Gain the cultural capital needed to participate fully in society
  • Are supported to explore future pathways and careers with ambition and clarity
