BBC Bitesize Careers Roadshow

In early November, we were very fortunate to host the 2021 BBC Bitesize Careers Roadshow. The theme of the day was ‘Innovation’ and was led by BBC presenter and documentary maker Mim Shaikh, who introduced and interviewed three professionals from local businesses (Emily Rogers from the BBC, Dom Kristy, CEO of Evolved Snacks and Dr Laura Allerston, Head of Grant & Research at Aceleron Energy).
During the hour, the professionals discussed their day to day activities, their memories of school and the skills and attributes that they felt had helped them to succeed. Pupils were able to ask questions using the innovative new piece of equipment called the ‘chat box’, a soft foam cube with a microphone embedded inside. The visitors were asked questions ranging from “What is the best part of your job?” to “What is your favourite cartoon character?”. The pupils have written back to the presenters to thank them for their time and to give the BBC some feedback. Here are some of the pupils’ comments:
- ''It was a good opportunity for the whole school to become involved in something special like this. It may inspire many people to become involved with the BBC.''
- "Thank you for inspiring us on different career paths and taking your time to help us pursue our careers."
- “This assembly shows our school that you can be whatever you want, even if you face problems and even if that career isn’t for you, you can find another career. You have inspired us all. That you for answering our questions.”
